My sister and I have been close since we were little, and we’ve done a lot of things together. I have always admired her many abilities, but she can’t sew to save her life. I work full time, and I also have a part time job to save for retirement. It has often been distressing when she shows up and needs me to sew something for her, but last week she really pushed me to the limit. She had a large basket filled with pillows, and there was a lot of different material tossed in with them. When I asked her what she needed, she told me she wanted me to make pillow covers.
Decorating her home is a priority, so I told her she would be able to find pillows faster than I could make them for her. She informed me that these would be for sale, and she wouldn’t need any pillows for her house in the near future. This struck me as somewhat bizarre, even for my sister, and I asked her why she suddenly wanted to sell pillows.
As I said, I have always admired her abilities, and she works professionally as a marketer. She had found a small consignment shop, and she said they needed pillows to go with their furniture. It would be my job to create them, and then we would split the profits when they sold. I wasn’t too convinced, but I did agree to create a dozen unique pillows for her.
Over the next month, she came back to me several times for more pillows. It was becoming aggravating, but then she turned up one day with my share our monthly sales check. It was more than I generally make with my second job, so now I’m quitting to spend more time with my sister.
